One Pennsylvania town just joined the real estate business

Some of the most complex laws in Pennsylvania and the rest of the country involve the sale and use of land. It is often easy to tell in a criminal case or civil lawsuit involving injury if a defendant could be accused of a crime, but some developers have ended up on the wrong side of the law without even knowing it.

Even when a sale or transfer of a property goes well, there is never a guarantee of success with an investment in real estate. One borough in the Keystone State is taking a risk by taking over some properties previously owned and operated by a local foundation.

Several structures dating back to the early American period at the end of the 18th century were left to the foundation through wills and trusts many years ago. Some borough officials were against the acquisition of these properties, concerned that the purchase and maintenance costs would outweigh rental or event income.

"A lot of years ago, we decided we didn't want to be in the real estate business," said a representative of the foundation. "We believe they'd be better served in another agency."

The real estate business is for professionals who can manage a portfolio of properties and keep them in a state that keeps income flowing. But real practices can come into play for people who want to own their own homes or find the right venue for a business.

An attorney can help all sorts of people and businesses dealing in real estate. Lawyers are often an instrumental part of a successful transfer of homes and commercial properties.
